Feedback inhibition of L1 and alu retrotransposition through altered double strand break repair kinetics
Nicholas A Wallace, Victoria P Belancio, Zach Faber, Prescott Deininger Mobile DNA 2010, 1:22 (27 October 2010)
Abstract | Full text | PDF | PubMed

Editor’s summary
Constitutive expression of L1 transposable elements, which can generate double strand breaks in DNA and be deleterious to cells, is shown to lead to higher rate of DNA repair, and attenuated retrotransposition. This mechanism in cells which over express L1, like tumor cells, allows them to survive the otherwise toxic exposure.
